Storytime with Lady, Season 2: Jackie's Back!

Friends in the Coffy Talk Chat, welcome back to Storytime with Lady. Jackie's Back! launches Season 2 of our continuing radio-theater serial, unfolding act by act across the streets, stages, and mysteries of Coffy Town.

Season 2: Act I opens with Lady’s “Head in the Bowl” Scene 1 — “Jackie’s Back!” picking up immediately where Season 1 left off and plunging the audience into Lady’s reckoning with the past.

The soundscape of Season 2 is a Coffy Town Radio Theater home brew, slow-steeped in contemporary cabaret and infused with notes of horrorcore, 70s-inflected funk-fusion, and jazzy noir, reflecting the rise of Coffy House Records and the evolving soundscape of Coffy Town.

The story begins with a rupture: Lady's long-lost daughter, Jackie, returns carrying scars, unanswered questions, and a name reclaimed from a birth certificate she was never meant to see. Her arrival forces Lady to confront her past and reunites her with an old love. When the Coffy Town Prowler is cornered at a community emergency meeting, the emotional bomb at the center of the story detonates.

A sudden unplugging triggers an investigation led by Detective Jimmy, who was a shoo-in for mayor until he put a popular Coffy Town Player in the POD.

As the investigation deepens, Coffy Town becomes a battleground of fragile alliances and rising ambitions. Lu Surrender's declining health destabilizes the mayoral race, Lucy signs a predatory Clue Records contract while distracted by her father's illness, and Unpimpable Missy refuses to be owned by a surveillance-driven music empire. Jackie expands her influence, Sarah Sarah launches her new business under the Coffy House Records banner, and Lady steps into a new chapter with her boutique, Lady's Presents. Meanwhile, Emcee Skawla finds herself drawn to the leader of the Rebels, whose escalating demands for narrative autonomy hint at a metaphysical conflict brewing beneath the city's surface.

Yet amid the uncertainty, the citizens catch a win. The Flower Power Exhibit opens to ovations and blossoms into a portal of life, reminding Coffy Town that beauty can survive even the hardest seasons. Lady and Jackie begin the difficult work of rebuilding a family once thought lost forever, while questions of inheritance, legacy, and belonging ripple through every corner of the city.

Lotta Moxi vibrates on a higher frequency this season, guided by an unexpected benefactor whose influence may reshape her future. Whimsical sermonettes, cabaret confessionals, and Gospel-House benedictions echo from The Upper Room, while Club Surrender turns to the spoken word to orchestrate salvation, remembrance, and renewal.

And when the curtain begins to fall, Unpimpable Missy dedicates her final performance to Dawn of Time, who stands in the archway of a flower-filled cliffhanger, waiting at the threshold between what has been lost and what is about to bloom.
